Becoming a Biblical Scholar

After his ordination in 1950 in Louisville, he spent the traditional year preparing for his preaching ministry at the Passionist monastery in Sierra Madre, California. At the end of the year, rather than being sent into a preaching ministry, he was sent to the Catholic University of America and then the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome for graduate studies to prepare him to be a teacher of Scripture. He taught at the Passionist theologate in Chicago from 1952-1956, and then at the theologate in Louisville from 1958 to 1965. Below are selected lectures and samples of lectures from 1964, as well an article that appeared in the inaugural issue of The Bible Today. More sample lectures are available on this site in the Carroll Stuhlmueller Collection.
